Investment Planning
Are your savings and investments working hard for you?
Our team of advisers assess where you currently stand financially and how you would like to be positioned to cope with future lifetime events. It is important to note that the cash flow analysis and overall financial plan together with your risk profile will largely dictate the investment process used. The following are some of the more common holdings within client portfolios.
There is a debate about whether the additional costs associated with active management are worthwhile paying as tracker funds over the longer term tend to provide more consistent returns. We believe that there is a place for both active and passive management within client portfolios.
Prior to making recommendations we look at whether your existing savings are working hard for you, if you have used your tax efficient allowances and review all of your investments and savings to ensure that they are competitive and meeting your objectives. We offer advice in a number of investment products, including but not limited to:-
PREMIUM BONDS - Premium Bonds give you a unique opportunity to win £1 million, tax-free, without losing your original stake. At the moment the overall distribution is poor and we do feel that these are only suited to short term holdings and emergency funds.
NATIONAL SAVINGS CERTIFICATES - National Savings Certificates are issued by a department of the government and are consequently one of the most secure investments available.
INDIVIDUAL SAVINGS ACCOUNT - ISAs offer tax-free growth and income in the same way as the former PEPs; the money can be withdrawn at any time without loss of the tax reliefs.
WITH PROFITS BONDS - With profits bonds are often described as a "half-way house" between direct equity investment and cash deposits and are usually invested across three main areas, equities, property and fixed interest securities. We believe that they can still play a part as a small proportion within some client portfolios.
OFFSHORE INVESTMENT BONDS - This type of investment offers the potential for tax efficient capital growth and the production of a monthly income and as with onshore bonds can be used quite efficiently for inheritance tax planning or within trusts.
UNIT AND INVESTMENT TRUSTS - A unit trust is a fund of stock market investments and fixed interest securities divided into equal portions called units. They provide a wide range of holdings in different securities and provide more security than could be obtained by buying shares direct with the same amount. An investment trust is a company which invests in the shares of other companies.
PROPERTY INVESTMENT - This may include Residential Property, Commercial Property or Enterprise Zone Property.
SHARE PORTFOLIOS - In the longer term, investing in UK and international businesses has provided a good return in terms of both rising income and capital value. The value of these share portfolios can go up as well as down. We work closely with other professionals when assessing share portfolios as part of your financial plan.
